Chautauqua pistol packets still run through Mayville

Chautauqua pistol-permit applicants should follow the Mayville office packet route before assuming an online-only process.

Chautauqua County pistol-permit work still has a Mayville paper trail. Download and print the permit application. Get fingerprinted and finish the packet. Then mail it or use the drop box at the Pistol Permit Office, 3 North Erie Street in Mayville. Include the county license fee.

That is easy to miss from Jamestown, Dunkirk, Fredonia, Westfield, Silver Creek, or the lake towns. This is not just a web form. The same office handles certain updates by mail or drop box. Its instructions spell out the copies, envelopes, and fees.

Keep a copy of everything sent. Use the current packet to pack the envelope. Mayville remains the county stop, even for people closer to Lake Erie or Pennsylvania. If legal eligibility or another issue falls outside the packet instructions, ask the responsible office before filing.
