East Hampton Village beach days usually start with the parking rule. Main Beach has the old wooden pavilion, snack bar, and seasonal lifeguards, and Georgica, Egypt, Wiborg, and Two-Mile Hollow round out the village’s ocean beaches.
From May 15 through September 15, daytime parking in those village beach lots requires an East Hampton Village beach parking permit. A Town of East Hampton permit will not work at the village beaches, and a village permit will not work at the town beaches. They are separate systems.
If you are not a village resident, look at the nonresident choices before you drive over. A full-season permit runs in the hundreds of dollars and can sell out because the village caps how many it issues. There are also monthly permits and daily permits for Main Beach Lot 2 and Two-Mile Hollow through ParkMobile once you have found a spot.
Walking or biking in is free. Before a beach trip, check the village’s current permit prices, dates, on-sale times, lifeguard hours, and enforcement details. License-plate scanners are part of the parking system, so this is one of those summer errands worth sorting out before the sunscreen comes out.
Where to see it
Main Beach is at the south end of Ocean Avenue in East Hampton Village (Lots 1 & 2). Lifeguards are on duty in season, roughly 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. From May 15 to Sept. 15 a village beach parking permit is required to park during the day; buy a daily permit for Main Beach Lot 2 via the ParkMobile app, or walk/bike in for free. Beach office: 631-324-0074.
