Guilford’s easiest outdoors note is not a trailhead with a big sign; it is the lake sitting almost round in the middle of town life. DEC describes Guilford Lake as a 70-acre natural kettle lake in the Town of Guilford, with an average depth of 34 feet and a maximum depth of 70 feet. The eastern shore is mostly undeveloped pasture and forest, while homes line much of the western shore.
That split gives the place its feel. One side reads like open Chenango County countryside; the other reads like a small seasonal lake neighborhood. There is a hand launch near the outlet off County Route 35, with parking for 15 cars, so the lake is more than scenery. It is a quiet working access point for anglers and paddlers who know how small local waters fit into a week.
The fishery also has texture. DEC notes annual trout stocking, largemouth bass, pickerel, panfish, perch, bullhead, and other species. For Guilford, the lake is a compact identity marker: glacial basin, farm edge, summer homes, and a public launch all sharing one 70-acre circle.
