Texas Hollow State Forest puts a quiet Schuyler County ridge into a much larger trail story. The 937-acre forest sits in Hector and Catharine, and its recreation is described as rustic, with limited development. That tells you what kind of place this is. It is not a lakeside picnic park, a paved overlook, or a Watkins Glen-style showpiece. It is lightly developed state forest land where the draw is quieter.
The clearest identity is foot travel.
A portion of the Finger Lakes Trail passes through Texas Hollow and is limited to foot traffic. That same route segment also carries the North Country National Scenic Trail, with Finger Lakes Trail Conference volunteers maintaining it under a stewardship agreement.
That gives Hector and Catharine a public-land story with more depth than acreage alone. Long-distance walkers, local roads, volunteer trail work, and wooded ridges all meet here. It is the kind of place where the map feels bigger than the parking area: a small state forest carrying two long trail names through a quiet corner of Schuyler County.
