Manhattan Street Parking Runs on Signs

For ordinary curb parking, use posted signs, alternate-side rules, and the current 311/DOT permit pages instead of assuming a resident sticker.

Manhattan drivers should be careful with the phrase resident parking. Specific permit programs, such as disability, clergy, government agency, highway travel, and city garage or lot permits; it does not show a general neighborhood curb sticker for ordinary Manhattan residents. The practical street check is the sign in front of the space. NYC311 says alternate-side parking rules are posted with a broom symbol and show the days and times parking is not allowed.

When ASP is in effect, the rule applies for the entire posted time, even if the sweeper has passed. Look at the curb sign, meters, hydrants, bus stops, and current ASP status before leaving the car.

For Manhattan, let the record lead. Use NYC311: Parking Permit for the public starting point, then keep the exact street parking or alternate side parking, search date, and identifying number with the file. Keep the office name with the file too: NYC311. If the answer affects money, title, access, a permit, a license, or a deadline, that name keeps the next call from starting cold. Manhattan street parking or alternate side parking records are much easier to revisit when the source, date, and office route stay attached.
