Montgomery county clerk questions should be separated from tax questions

Montgomery deed, recording, and official-record questions belong with the county clerk, not the real-property or treasurer pages.

Montgomery County’s Clerk page is the right starting point when a property question is really a records question. The page describes the Clerk’s work with deeds, mortgages, court records, oaths of office, and business papers.

It also separates that lane from Real Property Tax Service. A tax roll can help identify a parcel, but it cannot record a deed, answer a filing-fee question, or tell you how to request a clerk copy.

Before calling or driving to Fonda, gather the property address, municipality, party names, rough recording date, document type, and any book, page, map, or instrument number. Ask the Clerk about recording, certified copies, e-recording, court-file access, DBA paperwork, or passport service.

Use Real Property Tax Service for parcel data and tax maps. Use the treasurer or collector for bills and payments, the assessor for value, and a title professional or attorney for ownership risk. That sorting step is not fussy paperwork. It can save a long wrong-office errand and keep a records question from turning into a tax question by accident. A little sorting at home helps. Clerk, Records, and Deeds should not turn into a wrong-counter trip just because the office names sound similar.
