Montgomery DMV has walk-ins, appointments, and seasonal hours

Montgomery County DMV trips should account for walk-ins, appointment slots, Tuesday later hours, and the July-August summer schedule.

Montgomery County DMV is a Fonda errand, but the clock changes a little with the season. The office accepts walk-ins and also offers an appointment route, so a resident does not have to treat every title, registration, permit, or license question the same way.

From September through June, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday run 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., while Tuesday runs later, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In July and August, the day shifts: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday run 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Tuesday runs 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

That later Tuesday window can be handy for Amsterdam, Canajoharie, Fort Plain, St. Johnsville, and rural households trying to avoid a second trip. It also means the “right time” depends on whether the errand is happening in February or in farm-market, fair, and vacation season. Before leaving, write down the transaction, proof list, appointment choice, and month. The address is steady; the schedule is the part that can surprise you. A plain calendar check can save a long Mohawk Valley loop from becoming two drives to Fonda.
