Moravia has an easy answer when someone asks where the outdoors comes into town life: Fillmore Glen State Park is right there on State Route 38.
New York State Parks describes Fillmore Glen as cool, dense woods pressed into a long, narrow gorge. The trails show off rock formations, a botanically rich glen, and five waterfalls. That gives Moravia a place where the landscape does a lot of the talking.
The park is practical, too. State Parks lists campsites, a stream-fed swimming pool, fishing in the Owasco Lake inlet, and winter hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling on unplowed roads.
A family can use it for an afternoon, a camping weekend, or a winter walk when the gorge feels quieter. Visitors get a simple route into the hills without having to build a whole Finger Lakes itinerary around it.
Moravia is not just near Finger Lakes scenery in a general way. It has a named gorge park on its doorstep, the kind of place that shapes directions, childhood memories, visiting plans, and the way a small town shows itself to guests.
