Rensselaer Tax Services and Finance Are Different Doors
Rensselaer County tax questions should separate assessment, exemption, mapping, arrears, and land-auction questions before calling.

Rensselaer County tax questions get easier when you choose the right door. Tax Services is the place the county points to for address changes, exemption information, assessor information, printed data, corrective-bill or overpayment-refund status on land tax, GIS data, and tax mapping.
Taxes in arrears and county land auctions are a different lane. The county directs those questions to the Bureau of Finance, with separate phone numbers. That split matters for owners in Troy, East Greenbush, Hoosick, Nassau, Sand Lake, and the smaller hilltowns because the same property can raise both kinds of questions.
Before calling, put the issue into one sentence. Is this about an exemption? A tax map? A refund on an overpayment? An unpaid tax? A land auction? Then save the parcel number, municipality, tax year, bill, notice, and name of the office you contacted.
The good Rensselaer County habit is not memorizing every department. It is labeling the question before the phone call. Tax Services can help with the assessment and mapping lane; Finance is the route for arrears and county land-auction questions.
