Sampson State Park Still Carries the Military-Airfield Layer of Seneca Lake

Sampson State Park gives the east side of Seneca Lake a public park identity with a former military base layer.

Sampson State Park gives the east side of Seneca Lake a layered public landmark. New York State Parks ties the site to the former Sampson Naval Training Station and Sampson Air Force Base, so the shoreline carries a military layer along with camping, marina errands, lake access, and open park space.

That overlap is the story. In one place, Romulus-area lake life runs across former training ground. A weekend at the water can sit beside old military roads, memorial feeling, and the memory of thousands of people passing through a busy installation.

Sampson also keeps the town from feeling like plain lake country. The Seneca Lake setting is beautiful, but the park adds work, movement, service, and reuse. Recreation and memory share the same ground instead of sitting in separate boxes.

The claim should stay balanced. Sampson is a strong landmark on the east side of Seneca Lake, not the whole Romulus story. Still, it is one of those places where local history and a normal outdoor day meet in a way you can actually see.
