Schenectady DMV appointments and drop box are different lanes
Schenectady County DMV customers should separate appointment service from mail and drop-box transactions before choosing the State Street route.

Schenectady County DMV work has two useful lanes: the appointment counter and the mail or drop-box route. The DMV office is at 2025 State Street in Schenectady, and the online appointment system asks for basic contact details so it can hold a time. Bring the confirmation on paper or on a phone.
The drop-box route is different. Schenectady accepts mail and drop-box transactions from residents of any county, and auto dealers may use the drop box too. That lane can handle registration work, license renewals with vision information, duplicate licenses or permits, non-driver IDs, duplicate registrations, and duplicate titles when the paperwork fits.
That does not make the drop box instant. Processing time is listed as five to seven business days plus mailing time. That can be perfectly fine for a renewal, duplicate, or dealer packet, and not fine for a last-minute proof problem. Before heading to State Street, sort the task. If a human counter is needed, book it. If the paperwork can ride through mail or drop box, build in the processing days and keep copies of everything.
