Albany Snow Emergencies Have a Side-Switch Rhythm
Albany snow emergencies suspend normal parking rules and use a 24-hour even-side, then odd-side pattern.

Albany snow emergencies are not just a weather alert. They change the parking pattern for the whole city while crews clear and push snow back from the streets.
When a snow emergency starts, normal parking rules are temporarily suspended, but cars still cannot block hydrants, crosswalks, or handicap spaces without a permit. The move is simple once you know the rhythm: even side of the road for the opening 24-hour period, then odd side for the remaining 24 hours.
That side-switch can feel fussy until you see what it is doing. Albany has many neighborhoods where people depend on street parking, so the city uses the pattern to open one curb line, then the other. The city also publishes snow emergency lots, including spots in Arbor Hill, Pine Hills, the South End, Center Square/Mansion, North Albany, and the West End.
Before the next big storm, save the snow removal page and know your closest off-street option. If a car is towed during a snow emergency, Albany routes owners to APD for the tow-lot location.
