Big Flats Building Permits Need a Site Plan Early

Big Flats building permits are issued in set windows, and the town says required documents must be received and reviewed early.

A Big Flats owner planning a deck, addition, garage, pool, or other work should not treat the permit as a same-day counter errand. The town’s building permit information says permits are issued Monday through Friday during morning and afternoon windows or by appointment just.

It also says no building permits will be issued before all required documents have been received and reviewed by Code Enforcement. The town’s permit forms page starts the document list with a detailed site plan.

It says that plan should include a survey map or scaled drawing showing the project location, distances from boundary lines, and project dimensions, plus structural drawings. That is the practical lesson: before paying a contractor deposit or setting a start date, gather the tax map ID, plan, boundary distances, and construction drawings in the format the town expects.

For a real errand, keep the question narrow. Start with Building Permit, then use Site Plan to decide which office, map, portal, or form is next.

In Big Flats, that local label can save a second call. A good habit is to write down the address, parcel, bill, ticket, or deadline before calling. Big Flats Building Permit is the local handle to keep.
