Onondaga FOIL Requests Have a County Starting Door
Onondaga County's online services page points public-records requests to the FOIL form and department downloads.

Onondaga County has a broad Online Services page, and the clean starting point for many public-records questions sits in that list. The county labels it the FOIL Request Form and describes it as the Application for Public Access to Records. The same page also points to downloadable forms, applications, and publications by department.
That helps when the answer is not sitting on a normal web page. A neighbor might be trying to find a county policy, a meeting record, a contract, a department form, or a document mentioned at a public meeting. Starting with the FOIL route keeps the request in a lane the county recognizes.
Do the small prep before sending it. Name the Onondaga County department if you know it, describe the record in plain words, add a date range, save the submission, and keep the confirmation with the reply. A narrow FOIL request is usually easier for both sides than a giant ask.
For sensitive, active, or personal records, the county may have limits or another process. The FOIL form is a starting door, not a promise that every record will be released.
