Putnam Online Tax Payments Have Fee Math
Putnam County property-tax payers can use the online system, but eCheck and credit card fees should be checked against the bill amount.

A Putnam County tax bill can be viewed and paid online, but the payment method changes the final number. The county’s online property-tax system handles taxes due to the Commissioner of Finance by eCheck or credit card.
If the tax payment is no more than $50,000, Putnam lists a $1.75 flat eCheck fee. Larger payments use higher ACH/eCheck tiers. If paying by credit card, the listed fee is 2.55 percent of the total tax, with a $2 minimum.
The fee is not a county add-on kept by the Commissioner of Finance. Putnam notes that New York law requires the payment option fee to stay with the payment processing vendors that make the online transaction possible. Credit cards are also accepted in the Commissioner of Finance office at the same listed rates.
Open the online bill and compare the eCheck and card totals before choosing the payment method. If the question concerns a delinquent tax lien, use the Commissioner of Finance phone route at 845-808-1080 instead. Save the bill, parcel or account information, selected fee, payment confirmation, and date paid together.
