Town of Onondaga tax errands go better when you sort the bill before you sort the payment. The Tax Receiver page says the office collects town and county property taxes. It also collects school taxes for parts of Jamesville-DeWitt, LaFayette, Marcellus, West Genesee, Westhill, all of Onondaga Central, and most of Marcellus Central. The page gives bill timing and payment methods, and it says cash is not accepted.
That school-district list is the important local wrinkle. A payment question may belong on the receiver route, while an exemption question belongs with the assessor. After local town or county collection ends, the current notice points outstanding payments to Onondaga County.
Before you call or pay, have the property address, owner name, bill year, and school district ready for staff. Then match the bill to the right collection window and payment method.
Do not assume every Onondaga Town tax bill moves through the same lane just because the town name is the same. The small sorting step can save a second call, a rejected payment method, or a late scramble when the bill has already moved to another office.
