Westchester DBAs File With the County Clerk
Westchester sole proprietors and partnerships using a business name should check the County Clerk business certificate route before opening.

A Westchester DBA is a County Clerk filing. A person using a business name other than their own must file a Business Certificate, also called a DBA. This route does not cover corporations, limited partnerships, or limited liability companies. The certificate must list a Westchester County address.
Before printing signs, opening payment accounts, or buying insurance, search the name and check the clerk steps. Ask whether the work also needs a state or local license. A work trade may need its own license too.
Keep the exact name, county address, search result, filed certificate, and other licenses together. The County Clerk filing handles the name. It does not replace other licenses.
