Albany Renters Can Check a Residential Occupancy Permit
Albany's ROP page points renters and owners to permit status, open violations, property registrations, and current permit duration.

Albany has a useful rental-housing check. Renters, buyers, and small landlords can use Citizen Self Service to look up a Residential Occupancy Permit, open violations, property registration, and other property information. Albany ROPs also require two emergency contacts. Permits issued on or after November 1, 2021 are good for 24 months. That gives a renter, buyer, or small landlord a clear next step.
Use the ROP check as a conversation starter, not as the whole verdict on a rental.
A clean permit record, current registration, and named emergency contacts make it easier to ask direct questions before a lease is signed. If the portal shows open violations or a permit gap, that does not explain the whole building by itself. It does give a renter or buyer a precise thing to ask the owner, broker, or city about. For Albany, Citizen Self Service, Residential Occupancy Permit records, emergency contacts, and violation history belong in the same rental file. Keep the search result with the lease notes, especially if the unit is part of a small rental building.
