Orange County municipal links help sort the right permit desk

Orange County’s municipality list is a useful early check before asking the wrong city, town, or village about a local permit.

Orange County has enough cities, towns, and villages that a permit question can go sideways before the form even appears. The county materials list local governments, including cities, towns, and villages. That makes it a practical starting stop when a property sits near a boundary, a mailing address does not match the taxing municipality, or a contractor says “the county” without naming the actual office.

Use the county list to identify the local government, then go to that municipality’s building, clerk, highway, or planning page. The right desk is often an early permit requirement, especially in a county where a village, town, and mailing address can all show up in the same conversation.

Keep the property address, tax-map number if you have it, and the project type in front of you. The county link will not replace the local office, but it can keep an early call from landing at a desk that was never going to handle the permit.

The Orange County QuickLinks page is a good neutral starting point because it points outward to the local governments. From there, an Orange County parcel near Middletown, Newburgh, Montgomery, or Warwick can be checked against the actual city, town, or village page before a form gets filled out.
