St. Lawrence DBAs Still Need Original Paper
St. Lawrence County business certificates reserve a local assumed name, but the clerk still needs an original notarized paper copy.

A St. Lawrence County DBA is still a paper-and-ink errand. The business certificate reserves an assumed name in the county, and the name is checked in the clerk’s office on the day it is filed.
That means the neat online form is not the finish line. The County Clerk does not accept electronic filings for business certificates right now. The office needs the original paper copy for recording, and the document has to be signed in front of a notary. The clerk’s office provides notary service at no charge, which is handy if the person filing can get to Canton.
The money part is also worth keeping plain. A business certificate or amended business certificate is $25 to file. Discontinuances have no filing charge. Cash, check, and credit card are accepted for these filings.
For a North Country seller, contractor, repair service, craft business, or small partnership, the clean folder has the assumed name, owner names, address, notarized original, payment, and any banking or insurance question in one place. Corporations and LLCs are a different route through New York State, so do not assume a county DBA solves the state filing side.
